EMERGENCY PREPARATION

It is important to first note that there are many differenct types of emergencies. They can be natural occurances (weather for instance), man made (terrorist acts is an example) and they can affect people individually, locally, or widespread. Regardless the type or scope the information provided is given to meet your basic needs in the event of an emergency.

You must also consider that in the event of a widespread emergency affecting multiple people you may have to be self reliant for a longer period of time. It is not uncommon for tornado victims to be left without electricity, phone communication, or outside assistance for several days. Therefore it would be wise for you to address and modify any of the information provided to meet your specific needs.

MAKE A KIT

It may be in your best interests to make several different kits. You will ofcourse want to keep these located in areas that you spend the most time such as your home, office, or automobile. The list of kit contents is for your minimal basic needs. You may need to supplement your kit with products specific for your unique situation.

MAKE A PLAN

It is important to have an already established plan prior to an emergency or disaster. Waiting until a time during or after an incident to begin planning is ripe for failure and frustration. Your plan should be known, discussed, and understood by all members of your family so that things will run more smoothly when a disaster strikes.
