PREVENTION OF CVA (STROKE)

Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) most commonly called a Stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading to or within the brain. A stroke occurs when blood vessels carrying blood to the brain either become blocked by a clot (ischemic stroke) or when the blood vessel bursts (hemorrhagic stroke) prohibiting blood from reaching certain portions of the brain thus depriving the area of oxygen and other nutrients carried in the blood causing the tissue to die.

Strokes can be terribly debillitating and can often lead to death. The area of the brain affected along with the type (ischemic vs. hemorrhagic) will directly determine how severe the effects of the stroke are to the victim. As mentioned earlier strokes can be lethal. However, there are treatments available for stroke but the single most important element involved in surviving a stroke is time. Early recognition and early treatment increase survivability of a stroke.
